Lake Eyasi is a shallow soda lake on the floor of the Rift Valley, but people come for its communities rather than its water. The Hadzabe, who live around its shores, are among the last hunter gatherer societies in Africa, still living largely from the bow and from wild foods.
A dawn walk with Hadzabe men, followed by a visit to the neighbouring Datoga blacksmiths, is one of the most genuine cultural experiences in the country when it is arranged with respect and fair payment.
